Main Job Purpose
LWF has been asked by UNHCR to manage its refugee scholarship program designed to support refugee students who have completed secondary education have a chance to attain higher education within the universities in South Sudan.. The Education Officer position is a position through which the refugee scholarship program is facilitated and monitored.
Purpose of the Position:**
The purpose of the Education Officer’s position is to provide support to coordinate the scholarship program on behalf of LWF. The position holder will also work closely with the UNHCR Education Focal person and other education stakeholders in the country.
The role will be responsible for managing scholarship by ensuring sponsorship quality and monitoring all the students being supported under the DAFI scholarship program in South Sudan. The Education Officer will report to Program Coordinator
Responsibilities
The Education Officer administers all scholarship program activities, including:
· Developing and/or disseminating scholarship information, application forms, reports, and processes that assure access, accountability, and adherence to DAFI policies
· Communicating with students, parents, counselors, colleges, donors, and other involved parties
· Coordinate the selection of students with relevant actors, including education partners, CRA , Education Ministries, the refugee community and the German Embassy
· Processing applications and managing awards efficiently and accurately in the scholarship system
· With Finance staff, determining annual award amounts and preparing accounts payable reports
- Providing guidance to orientation and training of students on sponsorship as part of ongoing monitoring plans
- Producing monthly reports to be shared with UNHCR office highlighting the sponsorship news of sponsored and registered students.
- In collaboration with the program department, publishing stories about successes, progress and needs of sponsored and registered students or stories that would highlight the success of the sponsorship program and profiling its achievements.
· Coordinating with institutions on orientation and ongoing support for students (old and new)
· Responding to scholarship program-related inquiries
· Keeping current lists of schools/higher institutions, teachers, and principals in the LWF database
· Monitoring and evaluating the progress of all the students and reporting back to LWF and UNHCR.
Desired Experience, Skills and Knowledge
· Bachelor’s degree in education from accredited college or university required; advanced degree is an advantage.
· Excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft Office, database systems and Internet research; ability and interest in learning new software applications
· Experience with relational database software and/scholarships strongly preferred
· Professional attitude toward work; commitment to the LWF's goals, mission and values
· Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to organize work to meet deadlines
· Flexibility; willingness and ability to adjust activities and priorities and take on new responsibilities
· Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, volunteers, students and other constituents
· Excellent in English writing and oral communication skills, including presentation skills
